My RBTA sometimes stretches himself upward about 7" from the rock he is attatched to which is located at bottom of tank? Is this normal? Looks like he is going to tear himself

I run a 150W MH so light is not a prob. I feed it silverslides once a week. All h20 parametters are in check.
There are some green star polyps above and a green trumpet too buth he does not touch them.

Oh. The "going to tear himself" made it sound like the foot was stretching too.

Mine extends itself all the time. Whether its been recently fed or not. I have a 250w MH so I'm sure its not a lack of light.

BTAs are known to mount inside cracks or caves and stretch out for light.

I wouldn't worry about it...

sounds like hes good and healthy. means he has found and acceptable place to hide his foot and he is just stretching out for light. completely normal of a healthy rbta. If it was going to split it wont stretch out so much and it will most likely move to the back of the tank and move its foot onto two different pieces of rock or the rock and glass. etc and literally pull itself apart into two pieces.. sometimes 3 or 4

I asked the same question a while back - it's completely normal. My BTA attached to a rock within 2 hours of being in the tank and hasn't moved yet ( been there about a month.) He'll stretch like crazy sometimes.

off topic:
I also have a cleaner shrimp that is all over the BTA - rides him on the side sometimes, crawls all over him. I thought for sure the cleaner shrimp would be a goner - but they seem to like each other.
