RBTA up for grabs - tonight

A buddy of mine from work was going to take it, but backed out for lack of funds. Unfortunately, I already removed the anemone from the LR, and I'd rather send him home with someone than put him back in.

PM me for a phone number, first one who can make it here can have it for $50. This anemone is from a recent split, but has a fully formed mouth, is eating, and is approx. 6" in diameter when open.

Here's a picture of 2 of my anemones:

r00nmac, I still have the smaller one for you. Jon770, if I don't hear from you tonight, I'll still have one for you in a couple of weeks.

thanks... are you guys okay to hold that runt until i get back from spring break? can you pm me with a runt-like price so i know what to prepare for...

Thanks Jeff & Christy.

I moved my green BTA to the other side of the tank, and put your RBTA in it's old place.
While I still had my hand on it helping it take hold, both my GS Maroons started playing in it.

Apparently my Maroons are sluts.
Didn't seem to care what happened to their old faithful BTA.
They'll just nuzzle into any new anemone without even asking it's name first. ;)

Thanks again for the education on clownfish disease.
The new clown looks good, healthy "breathing", and skin.
I'll keep a close watch on it tho now that I know what to look for.

**On a sidenote, your RBTA has bubbled-up nicely tonight unlike the GBTA which has never bubbled-up once in my tank.

Glad to hear that, John. I forgot to tell you last night, but my RBTAs come from a line that's been in captivity for a few years and has done extremely well. I've had mine a little more than a year, and they've grown and split 3 or 4 times. A friend in Tampa that I got mine from had a similar number of splits in a year. He got his first one more than two years ago from another hobbyist that was selling clones.

Hey Jeff, put me in line for a RBTA clone....once I finish my new tank I will be able to keep another one. Plus I will probably move out the green ones and stay exclusively with reds. Thanks...

It will probably be a few months before we have any more anemones, all of the ones from this round of splits are already spoken for. I'll keep you guys in mind down the road.

Cool...that gives me plenty of time to get this new tank
done to my preference 100%. Thanks Jeff....
Although I have a RBTA now, so maybe at the next meeting I would not mind discussing them with you. :)

Jeff, your RBTAs are beautiful. What are your water parameters? temp, etc. What do you feed them? How often?

Thanks pedromatic!

In general, the tank runs...
Nitrate:<1ppm
Phosphate: .03ppm (barely detectable on Salifert)
sg: 1.025-1.026
Ca: 400-425ppm
Alk: 7-10dKH (fluctuates more than it should)
temp: 80-81
pH: 8.0-8.1 (even 7.9 if Alk is low, 8.2 if the windows are open)

Every few weeks, I feed each anemone a small piece of shrimp, and they tend to show better bubble tips for a few days afterward (like what you see in the picture above). The anemones may also catch bits of frozen food when I feed, I'm really not sure.

How do you keep your Nitrates so low?

Also, bare bottom, low bioload, refugium, etc.
