Is the use of a remote deep sand bed still a popular option for nitrate reduction?

Nope. Bacteria addition and carbon dosing has taken its place. Macro algae refugium still going strong.

I had a feeling that setup had become outdated but figured I would ask... still compiling ideas for a general game-plan of things I'd like to include with the next build.
