Re: Ferric Oxide

what benifits will you get by running ferric oxide in a reactor, will it increase your oxygen level? If someone can explain it to me it would be great! and if it has any major benifits for a reef tank. Thanks Reef Meisters!

Granular Ferric Oxide (GFO) is used in reactors to bind and remove phosphates, silicates, and some heavy metals from the water column. Personally I would use one on a reef or a fish only saltwater tank to reduce the nutrients that grow algae.

Careful when using it for the first time. If you use too much, it might drop your ALK levels. The first time I used it, I must've used too much b/c a day or so later, my ORA blue tort was gone...lost all its flesh. I tested my water and everything was fine except for my ALK, which was 6 dkh
