re-using live rock

I took down a tank a few months ago and stored the live rock in a clear container (it received indirect sunlight) with saltwater but no filtration or heating. how "live" is this live rock? I'm interested in using it as biological filtration for a tank for hawaiian red shrimp, so my main concern is if the beneficial bacteria is still alive.

It probably still has some life left in it especially if there was some organic matter that died creating ammonia in storage. But even dead rock will regain the anaerobic bacteria within a few months. Just give it time.
