Reactor for bio pellets vs skimmer

I currently have a reactor running rowaphos for my phosphates. I don't have a problem currently with my levels, but i'm using it as a prevantative measure. I want to run a reactor with bio pellets (for nitrate control), but am contemplating on getting a skimmer for that. I don't have a nitrate problem (less than 5ppm) but thought about the skimmer so I can start to have SPS corals in my tank.

I can't make my mind up !!

I was told by someone I trust that having SPS in a tank with no skimmer will eventually lead to the coral browning due to excess nutrients in the tank.

Of course, this will all be on the back of the tank since I don't run a sump. Also I do PWC 2x a week, 5 gallons a piece.

Thanks

When using biopellets you really need the air injection that the skimmer provides as well as its nurtient export ability.

If I chose the bio pellets and the reactor, could I just use the air tubing and connect it to the maxijet to provide oxygen to the pellets ??

You need the skimmer to export the nutrients that the bacteria sequester. The bacteria 'eat' the biopellets and consume nitrates and phosphates in the process, but if you do not remove the bacteria via protein skimming the nutrients will remain in the system. Its a synergistic system, can't have one with out the other... get a skimmer too.

Thank you, thats what I was looking for !!
