I just thought I'd post my experience here.
I don't know if it's something I did wrong, if it's my luck of the draw on getting unhealthy fish or what.
But, I ordered close to $400 worth of fish in 2 two different orders 2 weeks apart for my 125g that's been up for 1 year, has a completely mixed reef with 4 RBTAs doing great, a clam, a mix of SPS, LPS, and softies. 3 fish at the time, and loads of snails and crabs.
I added the first order, lost 3 of the 4 fish. Not all at once, I lost 2 right away, and then the third an anthia about two weeks later. The only survivor... 1 of the two anthia... The one that died wouldn't eat.
I had 2 clowns, a replacement tang, and 2 angels in the second order... 1 angel died in 24 hours, the replacement tang died in approximately 48 hours, and, then, the last angel about a 10 days after the order.
I got some of the fish refunded. I have a credit of $180.00. Of all the fish that I ordered only a few lived.. 2 clowns are still alive, and 1 anthia.
My water was at 1.026, PH travels between 8.0 and 8.3. Cal stays around 400-500, alk travels between 3.0 and 3.5 meq/l, and mg is approximately 1400.
No snails died, and all corals are fine. I thought maybe an amonia spike or something killed 1 or two of the later fish, but, At no point in time did anything have any excessive die off. So, I don't know what it was.
I'm afraid to order any more fish even having store credit because they'll just die...
Can anyone at bluezoo provide me with any reccomendations to get get fish to live longer than a few days or a week or two?
I have a 30 gal sump with a small DSB. I keep the temp between 73 and 78 in the winter and between 76 and 81 in the summer. At the time of these fish the temp would have been around 74-76.
I use 0 TDS RODI water only. I do intermittent water changes.. Not often enough, I also run a ATS. A SWC 160 skimmer. I just don't know what else I can do. I've thrown a lot of money to keep it running in tip top condition.
