Recharging Refridgerant In Chiller?

So I have a can of R-134a refridgerant. I figure this chiller is about three years old and should probably be refueled. But I am having a hard time finding the nozzle to attach the can to. Any advice?

thanks Andy

BTW it is a 1/15 hp JBJ artica chiller. I also need to do this to my 1/3hp soon so hopefully this will help with that too!

Its prob sealed like an appliance, ie refrigerator, and does not have a tap for charging.

And unless its giving you problems and you are pretty sure about what you are doing I wouldn't attempt to mess with the charge. The 134a does not get "used up" and if its low you have a leak somewhere.

If you are having performance issues I would try taking it out and giving it a thorough cleaning. Dirty coils and heat exchanger tubes reducer your heat transfer and reduce performance and efficiency.

1. It is a sealed system, so you willnot be able to recharge it.
2. Are you sure you have the right refigerant?
3. Freon doesnt go bad as long as it is the sealed system, if you have a leak, usually it will stop cooling, if it is not cooling as well as it used to them maybe the condensor coil is dirty, or there is not enough airflow around the chiller.

Good Luck...

yup i got the correct type of refrigerant. But in that case, I guess not. Thanks guys! lol, Yeah I cleaned it while I had it open, I knew that was going to help. It was bad, but just clearning that stuff away really going to make that much of a performance improvement? Thanks guys. Airflow should be adequate, it's been working quite well otherwise for the last three years.

Thanks again

cleaning the condencer coil will make a large differance in performance a dirty coil keeps he refridgerant from cooling properly making the temp of the refridgerant warmer, not changing from a hot gas to a liquid, raising the head preasure, leading to compressor failier, leaks in system, tripping compressor overload and other harsh things to the refridgeration system, proper water flow is also important to the system. like the others said if its low on gas you have a leak it does not just disapear.
just blow out the condencer every 3 months to keep the dust out of it and clean the built up dust of the condencer fan and it should last a long time.
