Recommend me a calcium reactor

Firstly hello from the Uk, am looking at importing a calcium reactor from the us, but to be honest a lot of your brand names mean zero to me! I have a super reef octopus 2000 Skimmer which I am impressed with for the money, are their calcium reactors any good? Thinking Sro 5000 at around $430 or maybe geo 618 at around $420, thoughts? It would be for a 250 us gallon sps tank. I also don't know much about calcium reactors ( I ball). Thanks for any thoughts

The geo looks good ( seems high end maybe similar to deltec over here), to get a similar size reactor in terms of volume to the sro 5000 ( geo 818) I would be looking at another $200+ dollars over the sro5000 or 618 geo, it would also price it similar to a similar capacity deltec overhere ( which defeats the purpose). I may be overating the reactor a bit too much as well?
Is there anything wrong with the Superreef octopus reactors? Awkward to use? Poor build?

Sro- 5000

Sro- 5000

Everyone is hung up on Geo. However if you break down the benefits of the SRO 5000 you will find that the Geo is lacking. My friend has a GEO 624 and I went with the SRO-5000 for my 320 and hands down IMO the SRO-5000 is better with more features and a better pump.

Here is what I found.

1. Duel Chamber - Some say it is not needed but can be used an an ATO reservoir then
Capacity - The geo is 6 X24 a single chamber the SRO is 8X20 with two chambers
Comes with check valve
Geo Pump the panworld was a thing of its time but the SRO waterblaster pumps provide more circulation at half of the wattage with an amazing 3 year warranty
I like the screw on lids better as I hate hey hole lids. The lids on this t are like 3/8" thick
Does not require a feed pump as the position the intake by the suction of the pump and draws water which means more efficient with less cleaning.
Uses schedule 80 PVC which matches my plumbing. And the interface with the pump is better designed with unions instead of clamps and cheap looking vinyl line.
After a few phone calls was able to get it cheaper than the 624
The Octopus is thicker gauge acrylic
In the end I got more for less point blank and it looks better IMO.

Google the price of the Panworld 30px and compare it to a water blaster hy 5000 both price, performance and warranty.

I also prefer the dual chambers reactors. Don't know what you mean by using it as an ATO reservoir though.

I have no experience with the SRO reactors and I would like to know if this is correct? and if this is what the manufacturer recommends in the product manual? Links please

Thanks

I use solenoid valves for my ato. You run it in the 2nd chamber reactor if you don’t need it and use it as a reservoir the 2nd quick connect to your sump. It is just a pressurized chamber with two quick connects. My point is that you can use it for many things and it is still $200 cheaper than the 818.

For your second question. I called tech support and talked to Jeremy whom has a presence here. I also spoke with Mike at ReefSpecitly and confirmed it does not need a feed.

Unfortunately there is not a manual for the reactor only instructions to put it together? I don’t know why but you can contact their support in addition they provide lifetime support on any sro product.

Maybe I am crazy, but you have some of the best designed reactors in your back yard. I would run a Schuran if I was in your shoes.

I was Looking at the single chamber 5000, had a look at the dual chamber and tbh I don't understand it, at all! What is it's design purpose? I am assuming lookong at pictures its not fluidised?Baffled.
Regarding drawing it's water due to location of inlet- I am assuming to slow the flow with an ro tap or something? And a solenoid so I can set the reactor on or off via a timer? I am assuming the draw is substantial so would need to set it as a syphon? I originally planned to use a peri pump. Apologies if any of my questions are dumb! I really don't know much regarding reactors!

Price, and I am likely to be importing a skimmer ( probably sro 5000 internal) maybe some aisol. 3 birds 1 stone. All far far cheaper in the us than here

Aren't there electrical differences in the UK than we have in the Colonies? Will our pumps run there?

Yes there are differences, but my 2000 internal sro has a us 2 pin plug and I am assuming is exsactly the same as the ones in the us and was just imported by the company I bought it from. I am just cutting out the middle men, though I can't say I am 100% confident! ( will be checking) also have an mp40 with a 2 pin plug, that works fine as well.

i have the vertex rx6 duo 6 ; it works very well, 3 chambers and a bubble counter..
