Recommendations for 40 breeder

Hey guys,

I got a 40 breeder this weekend to replace my 36 acrylic bowfront, which I'm kind of tired of. My goal will be to have someone build me a nice stand for this one or to buy one, but what I'm interested in right now is getting some help in drilling and putting an overflow on this tank.

I have a LFS who will drill it, but I need to decide what type of overflow to get.

I was thinking of getting something like the picture below (Ghost Overflow) for size convenience, but I need something that is near silent. What do you guys recommend?

Also, if someone here wants to make a few bucks and help me with this overflow, I am willing to pay you for your time and materials. I just don't have the time or energy anymore to do this myself.

I'll just leave this here.

Man,

If you were not so far, I would drop this tank over at your house and let you take care of everything for me. I love this overflow, but I don't know that the LFS guy will do a good enough job or even knows much about this type of setup.

For a 40 gallon tank? Feels like overkill and too much work. I was looking for something that is small and looks good. Kind of like the one Crazy did above.

I would. Use 3/4 or 1/2 inch fittings. If done correctly it will look good. JMO. Whatever you decide I am sure it will be nice.

A bean animal isn't really about moving as much water as possible, you can do that with big dursos, a bean animals main job is redundancy, I think you'd be fine with three 3/4" drains (main siphon, secondary and emergency).

Silent too.:lol2:

ok. good recommendations. Let me see what I can find to make this happen. Is there a kit that someone sells online? Kind of what Glass-Holes sells for their ghost overflow.

Update:

Due to money restrictions, I went with the Ghost Overflow from Glass-Holes. I love this kit. I got the 700 and it comes with everything you may need and a piece of candy. I ordered both the overflow and the return kits. I am amaze that it was so easy to drill the tank with their instructions and hole templates.

It took me longer to setup than to drill and install everything.

Here are some pics of the overflow and return kits installed. I forgot to take pictures of the process and the hole because I was a bit scare of how bad it was going to be.

Replace the elbow with a T, add a cap to the T, drill a hole for an airline tube and it will be even more quiet. Mine was quite loud until I did this.

Mine looks identical to this picture and runs very quiet. I also added an elbow inside to avoid "slurping" from the surface within the box, but it looks like yours is low profile and one will not fit

In my case I cannot do the elbow inside the overflow box. I got the Ghost overflow and the box measures 6.25" w x 6" tall x 2" front to back and is rated at 700 gallons per hour maximum flow.
