Recommended ATO

Hi everyone, I recently got back into the hobby after a 10 yr layoff do to moves and such. I successfully kept a 55 gallon mixed reef but didn't want a canister filter and all the hob filtration and skimmers I used to have. I recently stepped up to a pre-drilled 90 gallon deep blue reef ready tank with a eshopps adv-100 sump which I've guesstimated holds about 5+ gallons. My question is that I would like to purchase an auto ATO to keep my sump at the optimal water level as I'm currently adding about one gallon of top off every 3 days or so. I have a ehiem 3000 handling the return duties and it's currently set at full bore and seems to be handling the job fine. I've read a lot of reviews on the various ATO's on the market but am looking for more experienced hobbyists and their input. Thanks in advance, and wow have prices of equipment and everything else in the hobby changed

I was looking at the tunze for the same reason, seems like it has mostly good reviews as well. Thank you

I was also wondering if anyone with experience who has the eshopps adv-100 has any issue with keeping the water level steady as I'm having to replenish w fresh water twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon of about a little under half a gallon a day. I find it hard to believe there is that much evaporation. I was thinking of turning the return pump down a little. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Tunze ATO are the best!! I ran a 3155 on my 66g, and recently bought a 3152 for my new 40g build.

I lose about a gallon and a half a day in my 120g. That's pretty standard as far as I can tell. This is obviously a side-effect of the additional surface area and circulation of a system with a sump, both of which are good for the tank. Get an ATO and it won't matter.

Thanks everybody, tunze ato will be my next purchase for sure. happy to be back into the hobby, forgot how much I loved this stuff

Let me just say the Avast ATO with diaphragm pump is really bomb proof. I like that it is made in the USA as well. I've had this ATO on a couple of tanks and really like the pressure based system. Works well with my apex.

Tunze all the way.

Tried, trued, and well tested for several years. While anything man made can and will eventually fail, the tunze is pretty rock solid.

As far as your evap rates, I have an 80 cube with 30G sump. I evap roughly 2 gallons a day. It's quite normal and actually quite beneficial to your tank.

I have the AVAST ATO and have been very happy so far. I like the pressure switch they use. No way for a snail to mess it up.
