recovery after stn?

I have quite a few really nice size colonies that have experienced stn due to some alk issues that I have been fighting with in my tank. The tops of the corals look good but the dead bases take away from the look of the corals and look alwful. Once things are right in the tank do you think they will skin over the dead skeleton. If not I am thinking of breaking the corals up to sell off frags and start over fresh. I have one piece of lime mimic that started to grow down to the dead part and once it got to it it just started to spread outwards as if starting a new base. What do you think?
thanks
Jeff

It all really depends. If that area is receiving light I don't see why it wouldn't grow back but some of these colonies are so dense that light penetration to the center area isn't possible.

Leave them alone and they will grow back. Plant other corals in the dead branches if you wanna. Makes the reef look very natural in the long run.
