this is growing all over the tank. its not to hard to manage, but in large quanities, can it be harmfull to other inhabitants?

Nice looking macro, too bad its such a PITA. I've seen it before, but cant recall the name at the moment, probably in the botrycladia family. I would think that it could potentially overgrow some corals and stress others by growing tight around there base.

yes - red bubble algae...

that stuff sucks. it grows so fast and can start popping up all over if you don't keep it in check. emeralds won't touch it either.

my sailfin loves it. was mostly gone within a couple of weeks after adding him to the system.

It's only a weed if you dont like it. Started out a smalll colony on a rock, grew big, and choked out my zoo colonies. then I took the rock out and scrubbed it off, which just made them spread. Then, started growing on the coraline on my glass . I gave a whole bunch to a fellow reefer who said his green urchin and morish idol ate it. I tried a green urchin with some success. Blue hippo tang nips at it. Now its mostly gone, but only through manual removal. Remove it like green bubble algea by siphoning out spores. My emerald crabs dont touch it.

To save the rock, I tried cooking the rocks, 4 mo later they still grew. Have to grind down the rock cause the roots get in there pretty good.
