Can a coris wrasse be added to a reeftank with a clam safely?
I've read that they are not safe with inverts but how about clams?

thanks.

Is this for the 15 gal? Have you looked into other wrasses? I have a Halichoeres melanurus and Pseudocheilinus ocellatus and their both awesome fish that can be housed with clams.

oppss..didnt update my sig yet. My 15g is housing my pistol/goby only and my clam is in a 90 cube.

I'd stay away from the red coris with a 90. They have been known as tank breakers and can get up 12" in length. I think it would be hit or miss (with many more hits) on whether it goes after the clams and IMO I wouldn't take the risk with a full blown reef tank. They also mess with live rock and flip things over.

That being said, I have almost a full grown coris venusta and I'm testing him out slowly with his first clam. He doesn't mess with anything, however, which seems unusual. At the LFS, he was housed with crabs, shrimp, and small fish (they don't know much, they didn't even knew he hid in the sand). I've had him two months and no snails or sea serpents (2) have gone missing or been injured. Granted, this species is not as pretty, mean, or large as the coris gaimrad:

I'm hoping the best for him. On day three, it still doesn't seem to care about my new clam.

As mentioned before, I'd probably look into another genus that is likely to be beneficial to your clams versus a threat.

One of my happiest days reefkeeping was the day I caught my red coris wrasse and removed him from my tank! He never nipped my clams however, in his search for food he turned everything upside down. He would move rocks, corlas, clams, etc. He also ate hermit crabs and snails ona regular basis.

I now have a beautiful leopard wrasse who is a much better tank mate.

Good luck,
Connie

So then..... the Yellow Coris I have in my tank wont be good for the clam I am picking up today?

:(

when there small there fine, when they get larger there unpredictable

The yellow coris isn't a coris wrasse. It is a halechoeres. Possibly it will mess with the clam, but much less likely then a true coris.
