Red hair like stuff on sandbed

My tank has been runningfor 7 months strong now and things are going well. I have one problem though. I had a heating problem about a month ago and the tank jumped 6 degrees over night. I lost my Diamond goby and Black Kole (Dwarf Angel) but i have lowered the the temp but since then i have had this dark red spots pop up on the sand bed and since then the spots seem to have turned into hair like strands. I try to pull it out with a wall scrubber but every morning its ok but by time i get home its all back. I was just wondering what it is and what can i do to fix it. My water is fine 0's across the board and pH is 7.8

sorry i dont have a camera to do so. I have plenty of flow because you can see the strings of hair blowing on the floor. I have peguin 90 blower (90gph) my protein skimmer flow, my bio-wheel 120, and also my magnum 350 sump.

I just had the same problem. I sucked out all I could, then turned off all the lights for three days, making sure that no ambient light hit the tank, and voila-it was gone!

I still fight it and I have 0 Nitrates & good flow, seems like it always ends up creeping up somewhere --- cyano
I heard when remove remove sand it is on generously also, otherwise will just grow back in same place.

Ok thanks everyone, my nitrates are 0 and have been for a long time. I'll shut the lights off for a while and see if that will help. Thanks guys
