I just got my first polyp of a Red Hornet today for $50 and I really don't wanna kill it. Are there any tips you can give me on the care? And tell me anything else you think I should know about these. Thanks. :jester:

from what i see they're the hardiest "hornet". Had mine for 3 months shot off 3 more polyps so now i have 5. MIne are under 4 t-5s 8 inches from the light (ati blue +, daylight, blue special, blue +) sit back enjoy bud nice pick-up!

I have Purple Hornets already and they're doing amazing. I got them about 5 months ago with 2 polyps on the frag for only $50. Now I have about 15. I plan on sticking my Red Hornet right next to my purple ones.
Now all I need it Blue Hornets. =)

i have a "bug" corner on my frag rack yellow jackets, blue hornets (just got em') red hornets, purple hornets. It looks pretty sweet

nice dude, we should get in touch sometime, i live rather close to ya.

And to the OP i can't help ya out... but some tip i can give you is that if you ever frag it up.. sell it for cheaper than you got it to help the price out more!

:bounce3:

Nothing that I know of, sets them apart from other regular zoos in terms of care. I've seen them take high flow (longer skirts) and lower flow (shorter skirts) just fine. Lighting wise, same as all other zoos, so they tolerate a wide range.
In my experience, they grow pretty fast, sending out new polyps quite often.

yeh red hornet is a pretty hardy and easy to keep. i had mine under metal halide all the way on the sand bed

understand they're still a hornet lol i've seen them at 30 and i know people still trying to get 100. Its whatever, they do grow well and fast and thats why the price is falling fast. In a few more months they'll probably be under 20. Got pics??

I can take pics, but the quality is so bad that they aren't worth looking at. The red hornet looks brown with a pink-red ring under my lights, but it should color up in a few weeks just like my purples did. When the colonies get bigger in 6 months I'll post picture because then you would be able to see them actually. ^_^
