I was looking at this stuff thinking it might actually look nice in the display tank.

my reef does not have a sump or refugium so it would be an added plus to have a plant or two in the tank. my tank simply has a large amount of live rock and a HOB skimmer with the heater in it.

has anyone ever tried growing red kelp in their display?
Are there any other aesthetically pleasing plants one may grow in the display tank?

It'll look nice provided it's groomed to keep it from overgrowing the display, and nothing is in there to eat it. Many tangs will eat an entire plant in a day....not nip at it infrequently.

I tried red grape caulerpa and a variety of other nice macroalgae, and my yellow tang and my snails ate it all in a few weeks.

The ones that do survive that onslaught in my tank are halimeda and shaving brush plants. I like them both. :)
