Well most of us know there's a bunch of ways to control aptasia. Some are more thorough than others, and others are just temporary fixes that just cause them to come back with a greater vengance. I have no idea why, but I decided to give Red Sea's Aptasia-X a shot. (got it from Premium Aquatics). This was going to be my last attempt before pulling rocks individually to put in a 10G with hungry peppermints. I really don't have room or the time for such an undertaking at this time of year, so I just thought I'd give it a shot.
I have to say, it seems to work a heck of a lot better than what I was expecting. At first impression it looked just like Joe's Juice (that failed eons ago), with a color tint to it. You an easily see it to be a kalk-based formula, but they seem to have added two ingredients. An attractant that makes the Aips ingest it first. The second was something to "make it stick" better to the Aips' oral disk. This adhesive property may just be a result of the Aips seeing it as food first.
The product comes with a syringe and two different shaped applicator tips made of SS rather than cheap plastic, and they were super easy to use and made it a snap to cover the whole oral disc. As with other kalk-based solutions, zoanthids are only temporarily affected, and come back just fine in a day or so.
One of my 125 displays was really just out of hand, and they really did simply implode after the stuff was applied. I'm not a big fan of Red Sea products, but this one looks like a winner so far.
