Red Sea AquaZone Plus vs Deluxe

In looking at the Red Sea AquaZone Plus / Deluxe Ozonizers, it appears that the only difference is the inclusion of the ORP probe with the Deluxe one. The ozone generator itself looks to be the same between the two. Is this an accurate statement ?

The probe that is included with the Deluxe, what quality is it ? Is it lab grade ? or just standard ? The price difference between the Plus and the Deluxe is $70. The price for a "Red Sea" replacement probe was around $119 on another site, so the $70 difference seems like a good deal, until one looks at the other ORP probes available. The PinPoint ORP probe goes for $59 ($58.95) and the Neptune standard probe is $49 while the Neptune lab grade is $74.

My question is this : Is the RedSea probe really worth $70 (or $119.. *shudder*) when it seems that a comparable one could be found for $21 less ? The literature I read on the AquaZone was that it could/would use any standard BNC ORP probe (of which I would expect all of the above listed ones to fall into that category).

It seems like the best deal/option would be to purchase the Plus model (with air drier) and the separate Neptune Systems standard ORP probe. Can anybody confirm or contradict this please ? :)

Your perception of the difference between the two models is more than just the probe. It also includes the ORM metering system and a system to turn off the Ozone generation if the ORP level reaches certain setpoint so in reality the difference is the inclusion of an ORP controller not only a probe.
It works with any probe with a DIN connector.

Both units that I am asking about have the controller. I believe that you are thinking of the lower end unit, the AquaZone standard. I am refering to and asking about the two higher end model(s), or the two different bundles that include the higher end model (the fact of which I am trying to verify).

According to the information on the MarineDepot web site both controllers have that functionality :

Second major paragraph :

Red Sea AquaZone Plus / Deluxe Ozonizers
AquaZone PLUS combines this high-tech ozonizer with a top quality redox controller featuring a range of 0-1999 mV, a Ã"šÃ‚±1 mV accuracy, and a backlit LCD display. The easy-to-set dial allows you to determine an ORP setpoint for your tank anywhere from 0-500 mV. (Probe not included. See listing below.) All units are just 11/4 lbs. and 65/8"L x 61/4"W x 21/4"H.

The details page for both units (plus and deluxe) reads almost identically :

Plus :

AquaZone Plus 100 - 100 mg/hr Ozonizer + Controller with 250cc Air Drier

AquaZone PLUS combines this high-tech ozonizer with a top quality redox controller featuring a range of 0-1999 mV, a Ã"šÃ‚±1 mV accuracy, and a backlit LCD display. The easy-to-set dial allows you to determine an ORP setpoint for your tank anywhere from 0-500 mV. ( an ORP probe is not included and is sold separately )

Automatically controls the flow of ozone according to a pre -set ORP
Easy to read backlit digital display
Easy adjustment of ozone output and desired ORP
Continuous display of current ORP
Safe and easy to use.
Includes 250cc Air Drier
All units are just 1 1/4 lbs. and 6 5/8"L x 6 1/4"W x 2 1/4"H. 1-year manufacturer`s warranty from date of purchase.

Deluxe :

http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=RS3673

AquaZone Deluxe 100 - 100 mg/hr Ozonizer/Controller plus ORP Probe and 250cc Air Drier

Applying ozone to your tank raises the ORP, increasing oxygen levels and decreasing dissolved wastes; ozone also effectively kills numerous harmful pathogens. AquaZone ozonizer`s corona discharge technology provides higher ozone concentration than UV bulb style ozonizers and allows variable ozone output. Just dial in the amount of ozone that your tank needs!

I can see no difference betwen the bullet items outlining the capabilities of both and the only real difference I see, aside from pricing, is the inclusion of a probe with the Deluxe. Additionally, the Plus and the Deluxe are grouped together aparently seeming to imply that the difference is one of packaging/bundles.

Anyone with any information regarding these bundles and specifically the ORP probe included with the Deluxe "bundle" would be greatly appreciated.

I got it. By the way I am running mine with a Pin Point probe and works without problems.
Did you noticed that the same probe adds $100.00 to the price of the 50 mg unit, $70.00 to the 100 mg unit and $90.00 to the 200 mg unit. No sense at all.
In other matters the 250 dryer is just two small and will require regenerating daily. I had to install to 500 units in series to be able to regenerate once every week to 10 days in the summer and once a month in the winter.

jdiek,

Thanks for the feedback and information from your personal experiences with this unit. I think I will be ordering the Plus and the probe separately (still leaning towards the neptune probe, although all of my other monitors and controllers are pinpoint, so I have faith in their products).

Great information on the driers, although hearing that 2 500s in series are needed to avoid daily recharging is a bit unexpected. I planned to put the generator on a high shelf in the fish room (aka garage) which stays pretty dry. I think I will try it with the 250 for now and see if I need to add one or more 500s, or perhaps a DIY "mega" drier as others have discussed in this thread :

The moisture really does not come from evaporation although it can make it worst if it is say enclosed in the stand together with the sump. I have my system in and area that is continually vented and air recirculated from the outside. It is just the air's relative humidity which in the summer can rise to the range of 70 to 90% and the winter down to as low as 25%
If you want to buy Indicating Silica Gel try this one, There is where I get it.

Ahhh, good old AquaticEco, they have seen a fair bit of my money over the last few DIY projects :). Actually spoke to them on the phone regarding my last purchase, they were very nice and extremely helpful and personable. Guess they will yet again get a hold of my credit card :).

Got the Aquazone Plus yesterday and have it set up and running with a pinpoint probe. So far no worries :).
