red sea classic skimmer update

well what did i seen a post on the web.one mod was to make the venturi hole bigger to skim better,and take out the small tube to make it a 2 pass instead of a 3 pass,less harder on the pump.so i got out my drill bit and made the hole 2 sizes bigger and man what a difference,like night and day this thing is skimming mad.its pulling out some nice chunks of gunk.never would have though that stuffs was in my tank.i knew there had to be way to make these things work now lets see how long it skims for,i heard they are real touchy one day work next day nothing.well i got the skimmer for free so no hurt in trying.

I really don't think your going to be happy with it. Red sea skimmers came out 15 plus years ago the advancements in skimmer technology have been vast. If it's a budget thing and you want to get the max for the minimum good luck. But if your really trying to make a good skimmer for your reef tank search the used forsale forums, good skimmer can be had cheap these days.

You say the skimmer skims mad, is this the only skimmer you've had for reference ? I've got a few skimmers I could fire up and show ya if your ever in the area and want to see something different.
