About to bite the bullet and purchase one of these. Any advice? The new one comes with LED lighting, so I am not planning on needing a chiller. Any recommended additions? Pretty new to this.

I bit the bullet as well and purchased the black S500. I would recommend starting off with pukani Dry rocks from BRS and curing them before use. New sand would be nice.

Glad to see this thread. I've been patiently waiting on the LED version to make it to market. This will actually be my first tank...

any updates? has anyone had one of these shipped to their house? how does it work need a forklift? please update wanting to order one but afraid of shipping. found them cheapest on ebay

I'm buying the reefer 350. If I were you I would reconsider the max serious. It just isn't worth it. The LEDs that. One with the set up aren't all that good compared to others on the market and you could save money and have better equipment with the reefer series.

Hey folks so I got the new Red Sea Max S500 and the assembly was amazing. Everything went well together except one thing which I will discuss in a bit. Thatguy08, make sure you tell the delivery man to put the tank in your garage or something. Its a big crate, just o-en it all up and sort the boxes. Empty out the tank itself of extra boxes.make sure you get 4 strong people for a good safety factor as the tank glass weighs about 265 pounds itself. Make sure you explain to them before hand where and how to lace the tank as well as wa;k them through what obstacles are on the way to the stand. Ok so Installation was cool. But one thing I found SUPER tacky was the length of the wires provided by power brick for the LEDS.:headwallblue: They were super short. I feel that the power brick should end up at the power center or somewhere under the cabinet in s well ventilated area and not just hanging on the bank of the tank. It seemed to me the LED aspect was not well thought of in design si ce it's not documented on where ton-lace the power bricks.I called RedSea and they said to attach and tape it to the rear of the tank which I strongly disagree since salt water can spill and creep into the wire connectors causing potential fire. I have filed a safety complaint with United States product safety commission on this issue. I have also contacted AI and suggested a fix/recall. Other than that the tank is a beautiful setup just make sure all your hose clamps and seals are secured. I always use Vaseline on connections where o-rings are involved.
You can also follow me on Instagram to see me document my build as well. Ig:izzydoesit47489

Al Hydra 26 HD wire extension

Al Hydra 26 HD wire extension

So I ended up purchasing extension wires. I have looked up how much more resistance a 6 ft piece of wire has and calculated a .2 Volt drop yielding 35.8V theoretic which is still sufficient.

I used : BiXPower Y6 Cable - 6 Feet 16AWG DC Power Cable with 5.5 x 2.5mm Male to Female Connector

From Amazon. At first I ordered the 5.5 x 2.1mm which isn't the right size so I ended up returning the cables and this time I carefully measured the DC jack size with a caliper and found it closer to 2.5mm female hole size. I called AI and it looks like the person I was talking to had no knowledge on what the size was, but through experimentation I found the right size. But I did suggest to them that their RSMAX AI LED light power brick had short cables and to bring this topic up with Red Sea as it is not safe to hang power bricks or mount them behind your tank. They are not pretty to see, they produce heat which can conduct into the tank and salt may creep into the AC power side of the brick and cause fire and smoke ( happened to me before in my 20 years of keeping aquariums)

I tested the lights putting them at 100% all day and it seems just fine. I will be running them way lower around in the neighborhood of 60%-65% since they are bright. I will need to get a PAR meter to check and see. Need to see if local reef members have one I can borrow
