red sea reef ONLY

I am restarting my hole tank , it's gonna be only red sea livestock.
All kinds of corals will be in it , sps, lps, softies, mushrooms and zoos.

I've narrowed my fish stock to the list below of course they will not all go in the tank I chose the fish that were my favorite in all the red sea fish.
I put the scientific names because I did my research in a book with only scientific names ( I'll put the common names of the fish I know).

fish I like :
-chromis dimidiata
- blue green chromis ( I already have 4 in my tank)
- multibar pipefish
- pseudanthias townsendi
- fridman's dottyback
- longnose hawkfish
- bluestreak cardinalfish
- regal angel
- emperator angel
- escenius gravieri
- purple firefish
- hector's goby
- purple tang ( I already have it)
- naso tang ( I already have it)
- convict tang

and the 2 occelaris I already have I know they aren't from the red sea but everyone loves them so I won't take them out instead I'll give them an anemone probably a heteractis but I don't know wich one yet.
I will also put in some inverts like maybe a starfish or two probably linkya and fromia , I already have 2 urchins one long spine and a hitchiker one called ehinometra mathaei wich is a red sea species so its good . I'll put some shrimp also like 2 cleaners, 2 bloods( already there), and 3 pepps , I also saw red sea urchin shrimp (stegopontonia commensalis) so if I can put my hand on one of those I'll put some too.

can you guys tell me a ideal fish stock with the fish and inverts above , the tank is 265g ,7 feet long.

thanks everyone
kevin

oh and dont forget the red sea sailfin tang, also known as the desjardini, other wise i like the stocking list, just gotta add those 2 cause its not really a res sea tnak w/o those :)

come on you cant have a red sea tang w/o a sohal tang!!!!

In the long run that fish will get too big and aggressive for even a 265 IMO.

Why not try a small school of lyretail anthias? Definitely a red sea fish ;)

I totally agree with you cantonesfish the sohal won,t be a good choice that is why I havent put him in the list I think 3 tangs is enough.
as for the anthias I plan on having a shool of at max 5 and I am hesiting on either the squamipinnis or the townsendi but I think the townsendi is alot more rare and the females look the same as squamipinnis females only males differ.
i am also planning on having a shool of dimidiata and blue green chromis for a total of 7 chromis fish or I change my current blue green s againt 4 more dimidiata.
and to complete the shooling fishes the bluestreak cardinalfish will be 7 aswell.
plus the pipefish . the dottyback and the gravieri blenny will be in pairs.
I dont know if that is ok or if it is too much can someonr tell me.
tks
kevin

ps: do you have any fish suggestions from the red sea that I might have forgotten and that would be good tankmates .

Sankey's and springeri dottybacks would be fine with fridmani and would give a nice touch for the tank... sankey's can even be kep in groups of 5 in your tank...

yeah your right a group of sankeyi would look awesome I like your idea thanks but won t there be too much fish or is it ok cause my system could stand that much fish since I have a sulfur denitrator that keps my tank clear of nitrates but I am more worried of territorial behavior and territory distribution among all the fish that would be in the tank.

I'm taking out the pipefish of the list and replacing them with the leopard wrasse or the yellow tail wrasse. I don't know which one yet, does anybody have maintenance advice for these fish???

so I'll re-up the fishstock list:

- 7 chromis ( dimidiata/blue green or only dimidiata if I can catch my blue greens )
- 2 leopard wrasse or 2 yellow tail wrasse or one of each
- 5 pseudanthias townsendi
- 2 fridman's dottyback
- 1 longnose hawkfish
- 7 bluestreak cardinalfish
- 1 regal angel
- 1 emperator angel
- 1 escenius gravieri
- 5 sankeyi dottyback
- 1 hector's goby
- 1 purple tang ( I already have it)
- 1 naso tang ( I already have it)
- 1 convict tang

Is it too much please tell me .

thanks

kevin

got any pics of a flasher wrasse trio I be t they look great but wouldn t they be bodered by the bigger fish I don t want them to do the big jump :P
and wouldn t it overpopulate the tank I dont know if it is too much fish already

nope but you can probably special order some fro somewere or I can go to egypt catch them myself I dont mind the trip :p

Or just pay me to go for you...wouldn't want you to have to deal with that heat ;)

I dont mind the heat it would be cool I would be diving all day long I. ve been to hurgada twice and trust me it is by far the best trip I ever made in my whole life the reefs there are just amazing thats why I wanna do a red sea tank. the townsendi anthias arent rare on the reefs so I don t know why we don t see some available around here I guess people only want squamipinnis .

I had a 11 day trip planned to hurghada, which was subsequently cancelled after sharm bombings  Stupid people....

OK, thread tangent over, sorry :o

I went there for 2 weks a little after the bombings and was so worth it best trip ever.

to return on su so do you think the stocking list is ok ???

Well, unless I'm missing something, a bunch of those fish are unavailable from the Red Sea...

For example, I've never seen a long-nosed hawk, blue chromis, or purple firefish from the Red Sea. There are some nice butterflyfish from the Red Sea (live semilavartus), but I'm not sure how they'd do in a reef tank...

Next, I'm not understanding your logic about declining on the Sohal tang. It's the signature fish from the Red Sea. If you're declining it b/c your tank isn't big enough, then you should take the Emperor Angelfish off your list, too.

Lastly, your list seems like a bit of a 'fantasy list' of tank inhabitants. It's fun to talk about, but when it comes time to stock your tank, you'll have to take it one day at a time and go slow...

Take care,

Flamehawk
