Hello All,

I have ordered a Red Sea Reefer 250 and going to start a build thread here

So far I have the following:
Skimmer - Bubble Magus Curve 5
Return Pump - Sicce Silent 3.0
Wave maker - Gyre 130

For lighting, I was planning on going with 2 Hydra 26HD's. Would 2 or 3 primes work for the dimensions, basically 36x20x21.

Thanks for looking

Sounds like a good setup! The gyre is awesome from what I hear! Want to get one eventually! Lets see some pics when you get the chance

Thanks, I haven't received it yet, should hopefully be here before Christmas if there are no delays.. fingers crossed.

Yeah, I was debating between the Gyre and MP10qd.. but, I don't like the noise from the MP10.

Still trying decide on lighting.

My MP10 non-qd is actually really quiet for me. As for lighting I wanted the lights to have smooth transitions and color mixing possibilities without being limited on what coral to get so I got some radion pros :)

I have an MP10wQD running on a tank on my second floor. When I am in my kitchen, I can hear it ramp up and down.

The reefer is going in the living room where our TV is, so it has to be silent to keep my wife happy. I was hoping to use MP10's on the rear glass, to keep the clean look, but, the noise of one is too much, I can only imagine two. The Gyre should be silent from what I have read, I have one, just never ran it yet. Only downside is the cables.

I have decided to go with the AI Hydra 26HD x 2. I have one now and I really like it. I really like how the EXT mount looks, this tank is too nice to have something hanging off the glass. :)

I got the tank delivered on Christmas Eve, hopefully I will have time to build the stand tonight.

Looking forward to seeing the build with some pics (hint, hint) .
Love these Reefer tanks and just ordered a 170 for myself to play around with .
Not sure if I would go with Primes on that size tank . Would lean towards the Hydras if that is what your choices are. Also look into the new Kessil AP700 , 1 should be great on that tank . Even 2 360's would be great too.
I have a Maxspect R420R 120w , and a Kessil 360we to try on it my 170 .........will decide which works better for it . Also went with a Sicce pump , but a 2.0 for the 170 . You will like the Sicce ....they are very quiet !
The Curve 5 will be a good skimmer .......I havent decide on a skimmer yet . Thinking of a Curve , Skims, but will probably go with a SCA 302 . They are great skimmers that you dont hear much about. I had a 302 and it worked fantatic and was super quiet as well . Check em out .

If you dont mind me asking ............how long did yours take from order to delivery ? I ordered mine 1 week ago , and haven't heard squat if it was shipped or anything. I know the order went to Red Sea .........but thats it .

Good luck with the build !

I already have one Hydra 26HD sitting around, so I figure I will just get one more for this build. I'm little concerned about the pump for the long run. I plan on adding a fuge to the build and not sure if the Sicce pump 3.0 will have enough flow for fuge and reactors.

I ordered the tank a week ago.. I ordered the tank on December 18. It was at my door on the 23rd. I opened it up today to start unpacking and maybe build the stand... then my kids woke up, so it is now on hold.. hope to build it tonight. I will get more pics then.. for now, this is all I got done so far.. Enjoy!

Wow, I ordered mine on the 19th and haven't heard anything whatsoever if its even on the way ??? I guess the shipping time must have something to do with how close one is to Red Sea U.S.A. I guess. They are in Texas . Are you pretty close to Texas ? I am towards the east coast ..........plus the dealing with the holidays wont help either .

Looks like its packed pretty well . Thats a plus .

The Sicce pump will serve you well , its the same as Tunze uses and just puts their own sticker on them, so it has to be good enough for them .

Good call on the Hydra ............especially if you already have one .

Good Luck , hopefully the stand wont be to much of a pita to put together !

Red Sea Reefer 250 Build

I'm pretty far from Texas. I'm in Canada, Toronto. I was surprised to get it this quick myself.

Don't think the stand will be that difficult.. Put together lots of furniture, should be a snap. I will post more pics later..

Thanks for following along.

Got a little more done today... not a whole lot.. Built the stand.

I was thinking of using the left over space beside the sump for a 10 gallon fuge to breed pods, I would love to have a Mandarin eventually, or maybe even a little frag tank plumbed into the sump.

Would adding fuge to this be worth it?

Hope to get the lights up this week, waiting for my second Hydra and EXT

Hi All,

Been a while since my last post.. haven't really got much done yet. There were a few changes along the way.

I changed my lighting to two Radion xr15w Pro, I'm just waiting for the second RMS mount... I was very hesitant on lighting, hopefully I made the right choice.

I wanted to run a tee off the return to feed two reactors, one with GFO and the second with carbon... I have a Sicce Syncra 3.0 and a Waveline DC6000. I like the smaller size of the Sicce, but, I worried about it being able to keep up with two reactors and the main return. suggestions?

Or should I forget about teeing off the return and just run a seperate pump to run the reactors?
