Red Sea/ XMas Island Orange Tail Emperor

I have been following this site for a few years now. Lots of very knowledgeable people here. I have been keeping fish for a while now and I recently (three months ago) rededicated myself to my FOWLR tank . I had started with this tank five years ago. Last year I got some sort of parasite that I was not able to diagnose even with a microscope. After a lot of reading, I tried the ick shield from New Life Spectrum coupled with lower salinity. The medicine did wonders in five days and cleared everything up. Then after ten days, 75% of the fish had open mouths and died. I had about six fish left. I kept them for six months and finally started to try again.

Tank: it is made by ATM. It is about two thousand gallons, there is a special sump room with a 300 gal sump (Rubbermaid) and a six hundred gallon refugium (just live rock and DSB). I also have six other smaller aquariums for QT. Everything is run by APEX. All pumps are Tunze (five master streams) etc. three skimmers all are H&S, Bio reactor by reef dynamics, ozone by ozotech, lighting by Kessil and UV by emperor aquatics (450W).

I would like to have a paired emperor as my main fish. I have a yellow tail Chrismas Island emperor that is about seven inched in QT. I would really like to get a red sea with an orange tail or a Christmas Island one with an orange tail. Can anyone help me with this? I know about NY aquatics etc. they never really get the true orange tail and yet I have seen members here who have some. If someone could hook me up, I would be eternally grateful. I got into this hobby because of snorkeling in the red sea two decades ago and watching the emperor and sohol tang. I would be incredibly appreciative is someone could help. Thanks.

I have attached a picture of my tank. It is 16 foot long, six feet wide and 32 inces tall. The unicorn survived and is 2 feet long, so did the French and he is 18 inches.

You have a very impressive setup. For an Orange Tailed Emperor Angel I would contact Adrian @ Salty Aquaria . com.

He should have one for you within a week if he doesn't have one in stock and is very good at getting 9"+ specimens. He is easy to deal with and will send you pics of the actual fish.

Post some pics when you get one ! I really love the Orange Tailed Emp and when I finish my upgrade I will certainly get one.

So one other thing I wanted to ask about was: are there any corals that can be added to a tank like this. Here is the good part: Top level lighting, excellent skimmers, very strong water movement. The water quality is good.

The bad part: I keep salinity at 1.020 because I am deathly afraid of parasites even if the tank has good UV and ozone. I have QTd everything but when you deal with 30 plus fish for a tank this size it is almost impossible to eradicate every parasite. I think velvet and ick can be fought but flukes seem to be a tougher battle because you cant really see them (certain types don't show up in freshwater dips) and when you have wrasses it is hard to go really hard on the prazi. Also I do not doze calcium because I don't want to clean out my over two dozen pumps ever three months.

What about anemone can they survive? I am planning to set up a much smaller reef tank down the road but adding a few corals to this tank would really give it some kick.
