Red slime algea

hello, i am new to this section, but i am having a problem with a red slimmy algea taking over in my tank. i never had this problem until i just recently added my new power compact lights and now the stuff is just taking over faster then i can scrub it up.

is there anything out there that will eat this stuff or something i can put in my tank to kill it off. this stuff is totaly destroying my tank. i just did a water change and cleaned the tank again today. but i have a feeling that the stuff is just gonna come back again.

any help would be great

you need more flow and more water changes,, and keep taking it out.. that is the best way to get rid of it.. it will die off and go away, besides that the make somthing to kill it, i forget the name, do a search for red slime and you will see it..
i prefer to the other method.

i wouldnt panic just yet, it aint all that bad. that red slime is very common therefore alot of people have many different ways of getting ride of it. i would suggest weekly water changes of 10-15% of tank volume, with ro/di water not tap. while sucking water out of tank, suck as much red out as you can. be sure to get a good cleaning crew(ie. snails, crabs, ect.), just look around, their pretty much all made up of the same critters. get a good test kit(ie. API-aquarium pharmaceuticals) test for as much as you can, but most important now is nitrates(NO3), phosphates(PO3/4), specific gravity(hydrometer), and nitrites. time is also a big player in all this, your tank needs time to find itself. oh, and just look around on reef central, trust me you aint rowing this boat alone, alot of people have decided to skimp on motor oil.:uzi: DIE YOU RED DEVIL!!

thank you very much for your help. this has been an ongoing problem for about 3 weeks now and i have done 3 water changes and i even tried this red slime killer called chemiclean red slime remover and it did nothing for me.

i have alot of inverts and stuff to help clean up my tank so that shouldnt be a problem.

i guess i will keep battling it and thanks again. if you think of anything else then please do tell!
