Red slime

Ive had my tank up for a little over two months everything has been fine as far as water params...been through the diatoms and everything....looks great now....the only thing I have noticed is a purpleish red color developing at the edges of the sand bed...is this what they call red slime? I dont have powerheads in the tank..but ive got a wet dry filter..and a hang on skimmer which both create water movement...do I need a power head?

Yes you should have a power head or two in there for more water movement.

it could be its probly just coraline or other algea if its just around the edges, get some power heads tho

If it is Cyano "red slim" it will develope tiny bubbles and grows like matting. Typically Cyano seems to need good lighting, nitrates, phosphates, and poor circulation for growth to appear.

I would definately add a powerhead or 2 to increase the flow.
