Reef encounter

LED FULL SPECTRUM REEFER
On my way back from Montauk, I stopped in at Atlantis on Sunday.
I was extremely impressed, more in a state of wonderment, by
the reef tank at Atlantis. The tank has matured into an incredible reef ecosystem. Simply flawless, I was standing in front of the reef tank for 45 mins, just watching all the life in the tank going about their business.
The amount of corals, and their growth was just mind blowing, where one colony ended a new colony begins. The last time I saw the reef was about 3 years ago, and today it's just incredible.
Joe, Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's even more incredible from behind-the-scenes! From above, when you're not looking through thick glass, the colors just pop out of the water. The orange Montipora particularly is amazing. And also, from the front you don't get as good of an idea of how HUGE some of those corals are. There is a leather coral in there the size of a coffee table.

:) Glad you made it down--that Joe guy did a nice job, no ? :)

Thanks for the kind words, if there is such a thing as a healthy obsession, the tank is the result of a healthy obsession.
The tank has really matured in the past three years.
I've had a number of world travellers comment on the tank and say they've never seen anything like it, to which I humbly but gladly reply:
"Thats because there is nothing like it"
I hope to keep it moving in the right direction in the coming years, and if we expand AMW, maybe I'll even put in a bigger reef tank:D

Even with the glass, you can enjoy that reef! I read the entire article on the build of Atlantis's Reef, it was an undertaking that really paid off.
When I was studying all the corals the other day, I was involved in a great conversation with a fellow reef hobbyist from Boston.
He and I were studying and just commenting on how encrusted the rock is with life, the great condition of the fish, the huge clams, and every coral in that tank!
I had to also tell a few onlookers that everything in the tank is REAL!!!!!!! they thought some of the stuff was fake. I also pointed out that there is nothing like AMW reef in the U.S.
I always compare a reef tank to a bottle of wine, they get better with time. Atlantis's reef will provide years and years of viewing, and may someday, ( I hate to say this, but be a living exhibit to show what the Earths Reefs once were like). God I hope we get global warming and pollution under control.
