Hello everyone, I just wanted to stop by and say hello as I’ve been away from here for almost 2yrs. Well, now that I have more time and am re-taking this hobby seriously I wanted to take the time to thank the guys at Reef Hot Spot in Los Angeles for such an awesome selection and not to mention their unbiased knowledge of corals and fish. They were not one of those LFS with dollar signs in their eyes. Once again id like to say thank you to Max and Ray for their honesty and simple approach on their shop, it was not cluttered with all theses overwhelming pieces of equipment or useless chemicals nor were they catering to other animals, it was just about the fish and corals! So once again thanks guys!

I seriously gotta check this place out. It's just down the street from me but just gotta find the time.

I was there this weekend as part of a club trip.

While I found there selection of corals to be great, I found their prices a bit on the high side. Even with the club discount the prices were too high for me.

They did have a great selection though.

Maybe they've raised their prices recently, but when I first visited a month or so ago they had Croceas for $25, Sunburst Anthias for $25, leopard wrasses for $20... those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

I went by last Saturday after the club trip and was disapointed by their selection. Everyone else must have bought everything good before I got there.

Well, ive been to many LFS between LA and Long Beach and found their prices to be great especially their coral prices and still think they had a great selection on fish. Well i will need to go back cause the Red Flame Angle that i had purchesed has seemed to die, he was a shy lil guy so i think he got bullied.

I also went with the club there and thought their prices were high even with the discount, they had a pretty nice selection though....I still think coral oasis is the best

I also went there last weekend (have been there a few times actually because it is so close to my work).

I couldn't help myself - I got this guy there.

Hey Guys,

We really appreciate the nice things that everyone has been saying about our spot. This has been a very big venture (adventure too) for us and we are having a great time. Personally, I got in this business so that I could see lots and lots of corals which doesn't make me the best business man.

My business background is in the organic food industry. My goal is to establish a consistent customer base which is large enough to support a coral culture facility. We are a young company and no where near that end, yet. In order to get there, we need to turn volume.

Some of your comments about our prices being high are surprising to me. We've been trying to price on a level that turns volume but does not maximize margins. So. . .give me some feedback. I would like to know what pricing you thought was high.

This post is an effort to get some feedback from customers and reefers. It is not an effort to drum up sales. If it is inappropriate, delete it.

Best Regards,
Max

PS--que bonita hombre! I need to invest in some lights for our fish line.

Max - the Flametail damsel I bought from you a few weeks ago is doing great. It was a very good price for a really cool fish. Keep up the good work.

thanks

I thought the prices were very reasonable, but I only looked at fish prices and didn't ask about any corals.

By the way, the pipefish is doing fine, pigging out on BBS and he even sampled some of my homemade frozen fish food tonight. He went in a bigger QT tonight and I should start deworming tomorrow -- he definately is happier and more relaxed in a bigger tank.

I think he is well on the road to acclimating to captive life and will do just fine!

I find the prices quite competitive, especially compared with other stores in the West LA area. Maybe prices are lower in OC?

I have a suggestion for the website, too: webcams on the fish. It would be pioneering!

Bromion,

Cool idea. Really cool. We are going to be upgrading our website within a couple months and I'm going to check on the feasability. I've seen some cheap underwater cameras that would work. I initially thought of that same idea but only thought about doing with a show tank. Why not do it holding tanks? I think sales might spike at feeding time. That would be cool.

Nicole,

I'm really happy to hear that it is doing well and eating. They are such great fish. It is really too bad that they take such special care. But, like just about everything else in this hobby, with time a way will be devised. I'm really happy he went to a great home with somebody who is interested in giving him the type of care that he needs. It is really a shame that they do get imported in such quantity. I've spoken with our supplier about this instance.

Best Regards,
Max

Hi Max, my emperor, coral beauty. and clownfish are doing great. Can't wait to get my gold flake angel and I think your prices are very reasonable.

Thanks, Max. He ate a hearty dinner of 100% frozen tonight, so he is adjusting to captivity very well, unlike many individuals of the species. Honestly, this species is much more suited to captivity than most pipefish.

Thanks for speaking to your supplier.
