i have a question about the reef octo 1000sss. how much water should i put it in and also where should i have the gate val at?

I run mine in 5.75" of water. Run the gate valve wide open until it breaks in (CoralVue recommends 3-4 weeks break in) then adjust the water level as needed.

ok here is my question how do i now if it is open or not. it just say on or off

Turn it to the right it's closed turn it to the left all the way it's open. Righty tighty, lefty loosie.

lol so off to closse and on to open? or should i turn it untill it hits the water level line on the sump

During the break-in period you are probably going to have to run it wide open ( valve to the Left all the way) If you don't, it most likely will overflow.

After a couple of weeks you can tighten the valve ( To the right ) until you are happy with the skimmate you are getting.
