Reef Octopus 4 (100 Gallon) HELP

Alright so my tank has been cycled for a good week now. And I've been running my Reef Octopus 4 100 gallon protein skimmer, the first few days it was pulling out some pretty nasty gunk. Then all of a sudden its just producing clear bubbles, thats it. Also I noticed my tank has gotten A LOT foggier. The skimmer is in the tank at 9 inches. The owners manual doesn't really go into anything, except setting it up.

Soo whats going on?

Also this is the exact skimmer

Thanks a lot,

I have the same skimmer and mine isn't that deep. I had to put it up on a platform to get it to work right. Seems odd though that it worked then stopped. No change in water level? What's the SG of your water? If the SG gets to low it will not produce fine bubbles. Might pull the cover off the intake and make sure the needle wheel is clean/working right.

If the tank is only a week old, it probably doesn't have much bad stuff in the water yet. Is there live rock or any sort of bio load in the tank at all?

Yeah this morning the skimmer has a tiny bit of gunk but nothing compared too the first three or so days of it going, and yeah I was thinking bacteria bloom, its a lot clearer now. I'm going to keep it running for a week or so and see what happens, and I have 50 pounds of seeded dry rock, 10 pounds of live rock, a damsel fish, and a wrasse. CUC arrives tomorrow.

I'm considering purchasing this exact skimmer also. How is it so far? I can't seem to find enough reviews besides on marinedepot for it. Is it loud?

Give the tank some time to cycle
I have this skimmer and am amazed how well it works pulls tons of dark goop out of the water running on a 40 gallon with 20 gallon sump

Tank is has been going for about 6-7 weeks now. And its starting to pull more gunk, also I'm getting my ATO system this week so that should make it A LOT more stable.

@Andewbram-And for the skimmer I seem to be satisfied. I like to go 2x the water volume recommended, The Reef Octo. If I were you I'd go for something rated for 150-200 gallons personally. It will be very helpful down the road, and clean up the little mistakes you make.

Pretty much no noise at all. But my overflow at the moment needs some work so thats causing a lot of noise, so I can't even hear the pump to the skimmer.
