Reef Octopus DDNWB-150 Bubble Question

Hello fellow reefers,

I'm hoping someone can confirm what I probably know the answer too, bit here you go. I'm in the process of redoing my aquarium filtration with an upgrade to an aquarium type sump vs and old CPR 3 chamber setup. While I'm doing the upgrade I thought I'd take the time to clean up my skimmer as it's been awhile since I did anything to it. I know bad me. So I got it all broken down and cleaned out and I moved onto the pump. I had been having some issues with the ump for awhile where if it powered down for anything when it restarted it was almost like starting a car. It would just pp and then eventually kick in and start making some bubbles. When I took the pump (Octopus OTP-2000) apart I noticed the rubber stops weren't attached to the center shaft anymore? They're there, but just not attached. Is that a big deal?? I got the pump all put back together but I'm second guessing how much bubbles the skimmer is producing... Here is a picture of it running in my sink. I'm sorry it's not the best picture I'm still learning, but I hope is enough to see the amount of bubbles I'm getting.

So asking if I should: 1)buy a new impeller 2) replace the pump, or 3) is it just fine?

TIA,
Mark

Is that fresh water? If so skimmers don't work in fresh water if the pump isn't noisey a new impeller won't really help

Yes it's fresh water right from the sink... I didn't realize it wouldn't work the same. So I might be OK once I get it back on the tank pumping saltwater through it again? I mean it's not noisey and I don't hear anything sliding around in the pump so I believe it's OK???

hook it up to your tank and see. saltwater has more surface area, or something like that, so it doesn't work nearly as well in freshwater. hence a reason why they aren't typically used in FW tanks.

ah okay... I can't really hook it up to my tank right now as it's empty... I'm currently going through a complete rework. Upgraded sump filtration, new pvc plumbing, and clean rock. I basically had a horrible algae outbreak I let get too far out of hand so it was time to start over... But this skimmer is so huge it actually kind of sits behind my tank and I'll be honest, other than cleaning the cup I can't get to the pump that often. So that's why I got it out and cleaned it all up, but then when I turned it on it just looked like the bubbles weren't as many as there should be.

But maybe I can't get a good test out of it so i'll just go with if it's not making noise then maybe it's still gtg... :)

so question about the impeller?? The little rubber nubs on the ends of the shaft are not "attached" to the shaft anymore?? they are in the spots, but not affixed to the shaft.. Should I put a little gorilla glue on them to secure them back to the internal shaft?
