Reef Octopus Problem

I received the Reef octopus NW-200-6540B 2010 model around a month ago and had a noise issue from the start. i gave it some time to break in and still seamed really noisy. after trying everything to troubleshoot the issue i narrowed it down to the "Air Intake Devise" as is called in the paperwork provided with the Skimmer. when i disconnect the air intake the pump is silent, when the air intake is connected it is unbearably loud with a lot of vibration. I like the performance of the skimmer, I just think this may be a defect with this pump. This skimmer is in a Dr office and i am getting some complaints. Thanks
