Reef Safe Fish ?????

Ok so the problem I am running into right now is that I cant decide what to keep and what not to keep when I transfer to a Reef tank from a FOWLR tank.

Current Inhabitants:

9" Vlamingi Tang (going into LFS 540g Reef)
6" Male Bird Wrasse (unsure)
5" Christmas Wrasse (unsure)
4" Lamark Angel (keeping)
4" Striated Tang (unsure)
2" B/G Chromis (keeping)
2.5" Asfur/Macs Angel Juvi (want to try to keep)


Let me know what yall think and why......

Also if you dont mind spitting out some fish to fill the voids that would be great. The tank will be a 40"x40"x18".
 
I knew that but with my feeding schedule I thought IU would give it a try as I feed 2 large meals a day with 2 mini meals(by automatic feeder) a day as well.
 
Agree the angels are 50\50, try it and take your chances. I have a coral beauty and flame in my 65 gal reef and they are model citizens.

In a tank that shallow, I'd get rid of the wrasses. The bird wrasse will outgrow it anyway, but when those wrasses spoke and shoot upwards in an 18" tank, there's not a lot of water before they find open air and then carpet.
You definitely run a risk with the angels, so I'd have a plan ready to get them out.

So yall dont think that the Striated Tang would cause a problem to any new tank mates introduced after it?

Your angels should be fine. When I started up my SPS dominated 220g, I thought I would never be able to keep angels again. To my surprise, I've been keeping a Flame, Chrysurus, Goldflake, and a pair of Bellus angels for almost 2 years now. The flame is a nipper for sure. But not so bad as to have ever done any real damage.

You did not say what you are plannng to keep in your reef, but if you want angels, you can just about forget most LPS corals. I've found that frogspawn, torch, hammer and the like are OK. Scolys, acans, elegance (don't ask me how I know this), etc. are a no-no. Zoas are out too (again, don't ask).

PS: That Vlamingi must be spectacular. Too bad that at 9" he's still a baby!

I new my Lamarks would be fine just unsure on the other but I am willing to give it a shot as I have had it siince christmas in my FOWLR tank that I am selling with no corals to speak of at all and it took to pellets on day one. I do a heavy feeding schedule so that when I do end up putting corals into the new tank that he would leave them alone.

I plan on starting off with some rics, some LPS that you mentioned and then going onto staghorns, birdsnest and such. Oh I will also have atleast 1 soft coral but in the end it will be SPS dominated. I hope.....

What about the wrasse and the striated tang?

I know the tang would be fine long term in the tank but it is a bully in my tank now and dont want it to bully everyhting else I try to add to this new tank.
 
Also what is everyones experiences with the Venustus Angels? I want full experiences not just the reef safe things.
 
If the tang is showing agression in your current set-up, I'd make an effort to haev him be the last entry in the new tank. I reallize this may not be logistically possible but this should go a long way to keeping his agression down. Otherwise, he'd fine in your reef.

Be careful with the Rics. Could be food. Try a couple you can afford to lose first. Soft coral. Should be fine. You might want to try a RBTA. I did and it is now a beautiful 12" across. No one bothers it and the hosting clowns make an attention grabbing display.

Your wrasse will indeed grow big. Plus there are so many beautiful, completely reef safe wrasses available. You might want to find a new home from him.
 
That is what I thought about the tang. It can go to my neighbors for awhile until my tank is stocked and I might try him again.

What do yall think of trying two Tomini Tangs?
