Reef safe fish

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, and it also depends on what you have in your reef. My best advice is if you really want one, get one. If it picks on some corals, remove the coral if you like the fish better, or just trap the fish and remove it.

What he said. Also depends on the fish. Some times after months or years of being "reef safe" they wake up one morning and realize there are "snacks to be had".
 
Another issue: Often most fish are completely safe around very healthy, growing corals. But, many of these same fish will quickly eat any stressed, dying, or otherwise unhealthy coral. So, if your tank is flawless, and remains so, you may never have an issue. But let's say your tank has a bad day/week/month. Now you may have problems...
