Reef Test Kits

Hello everyone getting back into the hobby after a 10 year break. So many different test kits out there. What test kits are best for a reef tank? Meaning what brand name can I trust?

It’s different for everyone. I like Salifert and Hannah (but Hannah can have issues with certain kits (I think the new Mg kit has issues, and others don’t like the calcium kit). I’ve heard good things about Nyos and Red Sea. The general consensus is to stay away from API due readability issues and measurements not going low enough for reef purposes

I personally use Hanna Checkers, and really enjoy the precise reading, as opposed to some of the other test kits that rely on my judgement. They come at a more expensive upfront cost, but to me it's worth it knowing I don't have to make any judgement calls (color comparisons etc.)
