Reeflux and coral brownout

I have had my 2 250de reeflux bulbs over the tank for about 1 1/2 months. I have noticed all but 2 acro colonies have faded or browned out completely! Is it the bulbs? I was running 10k ushios and read all the rave about the reefluxes, but now I'm not so sure. Anybody else experience the same kind of results with the reeflux bulbs?

Current parameters:
Nitrate, trite, - 0
Phosphate undetectable
Alk - 8
Calcium - 410-20
Ph - 8.2

Thanks, Sean

I ran the 10K bulbs for about a week and my SPS colored up better than when they were under the Phoenix 14K. I ended up switching them out for the 12K's because the 10K's were a bit too yellow for me. Nothing but positive results from my corals so far.

You had good long term results with the ushios before?

IMO, it wouldn't be suprising that a new `hot' product turned out to be more mediocre than inital claims ;)

I had run the ushios for 1 1/2 months with 440w vho super actinics. Corals held their color after the move back home. But, the tank still looked too "yellow". That's when I read about the reeflux and looked at the plots etc. etc.

The 90 was setup in november. All the livestock and liverock came from a friend that had held my stock after hurricane Katrina came to town. Everything was looking good and growing under the ushios, just yellow. I guess if it's not broke don't fix it!

FWIW the 250w 10 reeflux that I've seen are Pi$$ yellow on HQI ballasts, but on icecap electronic ballasts they are a nice blue/white.

Browning could be partly from the tank, nutrient levels ... still a `young tank' in being set up as-is.

I guess there's reason to suspect things other than the lights ... not to discount your observations [we're just guessing, having not seen what you have].

I switched my DE 14K Phoenix to 12K Reeflux SE. So far my colors have improved as well as growth. I am running them on HQI ballasts as well.

I had several corals that were extremely "pale" under the P14, within 2 weeks after the switch to CVR 10k they browned, 2 weeks later, the brown began to recede leaving the original color of the frag. Under the P14, my green mille had a bleached white arm with no polyps, within 3 weeks of switching to the CVR color and polyps came back. 2 months later my wife couldn't remember which arm it was :)

Nothing but good things to say about the CVR 10k's!!!!

Oh yeah, there is no yellow if there run of IC ballasts. My tank (without Actinics) is a nice crisp white with just enough blue.
