Reefs in Baja

I just got back from a week long trip to Baja. I did not have a chance to go diving or snorkeling, but I did take a glass-bottom boat on a tour in Cabo San Lucas. Amazingly, even in the cruise-ship-stuffed waters of the San Lucas Bay, I saw tons of reef fish. Many surgeonfish, triggers, and a few Moorish Idols, plus many I could not identify easily.

The only warm water (75+) I found in all of Baja was in Cabo, but I read there are more reefs in the Sea of Cortez. I can't wait to go back!

Heh, I may be either going to Cancun or to Los Cabos this year...probably for spring break. I'm most likely going to be snorkeling as much as possible when I'm there. The last time I went snorkeling at cancun I saw massive schools of damsels and some large sea turtles. Also there I gathered several pounds of live sand and rock, and the sand was a really nice size. I love seeing the reefs in mexico. It gives me ideas on how I want my tank.

If you go to Cabo I highly suggest driving out of town for a day or two. Todos Santos on the Pacific side is really nice, and there are many towns between San Jose del Cabo and La Paz on the Sea of Cortez. Car rental is slightly pricier, but worth it!

While your in cabo take a ferry over to Cozumel. Its an island off cabo. I went diving there last may and it was awesome. Lots of reefs and reef fish. Largest barrier reef out side australia. You won't be disappointed.
