Reefscience Live Rock - Made my day!

Reefmack

In Memoriam
I received 25 lbs. of LR from Chad at Reefscience the other day, and I was extremely please with it. It had several bright red mushrooms on it, as well as a grouping of several button polyps, and a nice group of brown star polyps. I noticed a lot of these things opening up only 3 hours after putting the rock in my tank! I was amazed and I'm very pleased with the LR from Chad! Chad's also been helpful in identifying some of the things that I'm seeing. Very satisfied newbie here! Live rock is one of the things that drew me into saltwater after years of FW, and it's really cool to see the life popping out of the rock - so much more interesting than freshwater!

The only ones I have right now are a couple I posted earlier looking for ID help.

Here's one with the red mushrooms (the most plainly seen one is at the bottom left). Buttons on the right.

This is one with the brown star polyps - not a good picture as you can only see the one of several in the group sticking up in the middle:

Lots of nice color on the rock.

helo please let me know the website or phone number where i can get some live rock like your,,very nice looking rock thanks

Are you sure they are not the dreaded APTASIA on that second rock...sure look like it to me.You have got to be careful,I orderd a frag pac from garf.org an one of the polyps they sent me was an aptasia. Now that was a long time ago and now I know better!!
Just make sure, becuase if you can get rid of it now before it's too late!!!!!...Lou.

Looks like gsp to me. It's growing from the purple mat, right? The brown-ness should color up to a nice green color if under proper lighting. :)

Easy way to tell for sure is to just squirt a little bit of flake or a very small piece of krill or mysis right onto the disk. If it sticks and swallows it quickly if most probably aiptasia.

I can't tell either way from the pic but it's worth a check for peace of mind.

Nope - definitely not aiptasia - green star polyps for sure. I've been keeping an eye out for aiptasia & no sign of it yet. I just saw aiptasia (plentiful) at my local Petco. Just posted that in the Petco topic. BTW, I just noticed that I now have another type of button showing up on the rock, but this kind has green tentacles and a green center. Some other stuff showing up too, but haven't ID'd it yet, but no aiptasia.

Thats great news!!!! just making sure...bye the way I have delt withreef sience in the past and I have nothing but good things to say about them, great service, and wysiwyg for sure!!!!

Here's the deal with my rock from Reefscience.
Got it last Wednesday and have had no ammonia or nitrite readings at all.

Does that sound right?
If I still don't have any readings by this weekend I am going to add a couple of Cerith and Nassarius snails.

how much did you paid for 25bl plus shipping??/ i may get some from there too,, very nice looking live rock,,thanks

Cyborob - I got no noticeable cycle either. If there was one it was so small that I missed it! I never have seen any ammonia or nitrites, which I guess is an indication of how well cured the rock is. Another reason I was so pleased with it. I bought a couple clowns and cardinals, but I bought the saltwater Bio-Spira also, to be safe, and after a week with the fish I still have seen no ammonia or nitrite. I've always used the Bio-Spira in FW, and I figured it couldn't hurt to use it, even if it wasn't needed.

khoivo1: I got mine at a sale price from reefscience so send an email to them to get a quote - 25 lbs. is the minimum order. For me it ended up at right about $8/lb, including the overnight shipping charge.

Sounds about right, you *may* go through a "mini" cycle that will last from a few days to a week but should be relatively quick as you have enough living bacteria on that rock that it should break down the amonia and nitrite quickly...

Hope this helps,
Chad D. Bryant
