Refug wet dry

i have a 75 gallon tank that i have got off of a guy that i know. when i got it there was a 75 gallon wet dry system with protein skimmer built in. i have up graded to a refug and have them running inline ( two diffrent tanks with bulkhead conectiong them) for about a little over a mouth now. would it be time to take the wet dry out or leave it. also i would betaking the protean skimmer out if i take the wet dry so i then would have to go and get a diff protein skimmer right ? not sure what to do any com and questions will help thanks. jeremy

If you have a high bioload then the bioballs would be good to have, they do an excellent job of housing bacteria to break down Ammonia and Nitrite. If your tank is primarily corals with plenty of LR and a DSB then they arent necessary and may cause problems with high Nitrate. You can also look at it this way if you have corals a few fish, a refugium, and feed heavily then you may want to keep them. Ammonia is an easy nutrient for nuisance micro algae to use so the quicker it is broken down to nitrate the better to help your macro algae to compete with the micro algae.

thanks man would it be a good idea for me to get a better protean skimmer a larger size? i dont know if you saw the one i have but it is the one that comes with the sump built in?

Is that an Amiricle wet dry set up? If so I had a hang on for awhile on my 90g reef and it performed okay. Whether it is or isnt I'd run it for a while and see how it performs. If you havent allready read these you should it could help increase the performance. Instead use some of that money for a refractometer and ditch the hydrometer. Hydrometers are notoriously innaccurate, and accuracy can fluctuate with time as deposits build in the unit and on the swingarm
