refugium help

I am new to having a refugium. I just got the refugium starter kit from live aquaria. Do I just throw it in there and hope that it grows. I have a light on it. It is a Kessel amazon, and I have an inch of miracle mud as substrate. What else do you do? Help Please. Thanks

Not sure what you mean by throw it in there but if it were me i would shut down the sump if thats where its going and not a dedicated refug and add the mud / cheato and hang the light then once things settle slowly start the flow.

In a refugium you want a deep bed of mud not a shallow one.

Even if the miracle mud people say you only need 1 inch? Also do the plants just start growing on their own?

hopefully you have supply coming into the sump threw a filter sock, then add some chalerpa algae, have the light come on when the light on ur tank go`s off, then return pump back to display, skimmer, water top off, carbon and gfo taken and returned through the sump, thats about it!
