Refugium Mud

Im setting up a refugium and would like some input on the different refugium muds out there. I know of two kinds: Carib Sea Mineral Mud and Ecosystem Miracle Mud. The price difference is incredible. Is this a reflection of quality?

According to my LFS, both do a great job in comparison to regular sand. I went ahead and bit the bullet and used the Ecosystem product with great success in keeping my PO4 in check and raising massive amounts of pods. I don't know what more you could expect from your refugium.

I have heard alot of good results from the ecosystems mud but I believe the ecosystems mud was the first mud out and now alot of other manufacturers are developing muds for the refugium. I believe Kent has something called marine biosediment. the ecosystem is good but these newer ones out on the market might be just as good it is hard to say.

I had no success with Miracle Mud until my LFS suggested putting a layer of coral sand on top of it. That seems to be workingly splendidly, macro-algae thriving and pod population booming.
