refugium pod questions

im planning on setting up a 75 gal reef tank with a sump. id like to make a refugium section in my sump mainly for sustaining a amphipod/copepod population for a mandarin in my main tank. my main concern is the return pump. wont the pods be destroyed when sucked into the main tank? is the only way for this to work is that i have the refugium over the main tank so that it drains into the reef? thanks in advance.

No, most will survive, you'd be surprised (I think the number is somewhere around 70-80%.
