Refugium

I want to add a refugium to my 65 gallon tank. Would a 20long make for a nice refugium? Or just a waste of space?

Also, what do you keep in your refugiums? I'm just looking for nice ideas here.

20 gallons would be great for a 65 gallon. You can keep a fine sand bottom and some pieces of live rocks aswell as some chaeto algae to help absorb nutirents.

I use a 20L for a sump/fuge on my 55g and have been happy with it. My 20L is divided into 3 sections: the first has my skimmer, the second is the fuge with live sand, rubble rock and chaeto, the third section has my return pump (I also drip kalk into this section). However you set it up the 20L would be a good fit for a 65g.

I just built one on my 55g. Took a 10G tank drilled it...have about 40-60 GPH flow in there from the sump and then it flows back in to the sump over the pump back to the main tank. Its only been set up about 2 weeks and its working great. I have a high fish load so usually after a week my nitrates reach 30-40 and I have to do a 10G water change...since its been set up my nitrates have stayed at 20...I have 20 pounds of live sand, caulerpa, a few mangroves, red graciliaria, chaetomorpha and about 5 pounds of live rock rubble(adding more soon). IMO its worth setting up....
