I am about to do a Cupramine treatment for ick because there have been a couple of white spots showing up on my two pylei wrasses. One of the two wrasses has also been taking fin damage. The very back of the dorsal fin (usually round and smooth) has developed more of a spiny look to it. I tried to see if this was part of the process for the female becoming male, but the males have rounded dorsal fins. I have also noticed some parts of the caudal fin.
Sorry for the picture being bad, but it is the best I can get because she seems to always be moving.
1. How old is this aquarium? 6 months (QT tank)
2. If less than six months old, what is ammonia level? none
3. What is SG of this aquarium? How measured? 1.024
4. When was the last fish added to this aquarium? 5-6 weeks ago
5. Was it quarantined? If so, how? And how long? Was it prophylactically treated? How? Still in quarantine, has been treated with Prazi for flukes
6. If you are using a copper based medication, which one? How often do you measure level? When?
7. If you are using hyposalinity, how did you calibrate your refractometer?
8. Please describe in detail, the appearance of the fish? If there is one or more pimples, are they lumpy? What color? Picture above.
9. Please describe the behavior of the fish as best you can. Is it acting reclusive? Is it always up towards the top of the aquarium? Is it avoiding light? How active is the fish? The behavior is normal for when I have had it. She is going male I believe (may be fighting with the other female still) and is boss of the tank. She actually shows off to both clownfish in QT with her and the other wrasse. She is all over the tank not favoring one area or the other, but the other female stays towards the top (I think because the female with fin damage is chasing her up there). There is no light avoiding by anyone. She and the other fish are quite active. The wrasses are swimming all over the tank.
10. Is the fish eating? What? The fish is eating. However the two wrasses go through phases of liking foods. They liked mysis shrimp for a week then didn't like and moved on to liking squid. They don't like squid anymore. The one thing they have always liked is Formula 1 flake. They go crazy for it at times.
