Remora skimmer on 60 gallon?

Can anybody relate to having such a big skimmer on small tank? I new the remora pro was big but man in a 58 gallon tank with the bubble pucket on it sure takes up a lot of room. Now I got it I have to use it. Is anybody else in this similiar situtation? Any camoflage ideas?

Thanks,Rob.

The biggest prob with the remora pro is that its its large and bulky and it couldn't skim crap out of a toilet. There junk imo. Unfortunately many people still tell others to buy them. Especially wetwebmedia. I wouldn't put one on any tank if they paid me. Not trying to be real negative, just honest.

Thanks, great info, everything is as clear as mud now. I hooked up the remora yesterday and by last night the tank already looked better. Its is not producing dry scum right now, but it is filling the cup up with green soupy crap.

Thanks,Rob.

I have one and it seems to work fine. It definitely skims crud out of the water.

My only complaint is the microbubbles, but as I have it as far from my lift pump as possible and it seems to settle down after awhile.

That and it's a hang on the tank model. I didn't seem to pick that up from the description before buying.

I had one as well and it skimmed just fine. I liked it. The tank that it was on had some really messy eaters in it too. But I added a HOB fuge to help with nutrient export so I bought the urchin because it could go in sump.

I have the same remora skimmer, but my is not skimmer as good... I see there is a screw knob inside the skimmer under the holding cup.. should I mess with that screw? How can you adjust the level of skim on the remora? i am new at this.. and currently I leave the cup on the lowest level... can you please help?

I guess it would depend on the definition of "just fine". When people upgrade to a better skimmer, they usually find their new skimmer pulls out in a day what the Remora/Urchin did in 1 - 2 weeks.

AFAIK, you remove that screw to clean the head. It's not an adjustment. I could be wrong.

The only adjustment (again AFAIK) is the height of the skimmer cup. Lower to skim wet. Higher to skim dry.

I also have an ASM G3 which is also "just fine". What skimmers would you recommend?

There are a lot of different skimmers out there with different strengths. I would need to know the requirements before I could make a recommendation.

As a real life example:

110 gallon reef, 4 anemones, 7" tang, maroon clown, 5 damsels, dragonnet, 2 clams, and usual inverts. 100+ lbs of rock.

I have persistent problems with hair algae, but it seems to be getting better over time.

Tank is a few years old, but I put decent lighting on it about 8 months ago and it cycled.

This is the tank with the ASM G3. Skimmer is rated for 220+ gallons (I think).

I'm adding a fug now.

Fatdaddy.. I currently only have 3 fishes in the 72 gal tank. and the remora skimmer is only picking up some foams.(very small amount) I did lower the cup to the lowest level.. but it is not picking up much.. can it be becuase my bioload is small? I also run carbon, filter sponges, uv also...
my 3 fish are
tp clown 2"
blue tang 3"
glodenhead sleeper 3"long

Is adjustment the cup higher or lower made skimming better? which is a better level on the cup?

Lower to get more skimmate, but it won't be as rich.

That doesn't sound right. I was pickup up crud out of my 100g even after no fish for 6 months. I think the sand bed was filthy, but even the live rock should produce some organics.

are there any thing I can do to adjust to get more skimming?

Hm, why no foam? Can you tell if it's blowing bubbles into the unit?

Kalkwasser also works. Use a slow drip line usually at night to avoid moving the PH up too high. I'd recommend a drip gate. I bought mine at kvsupply.com and marinedepot.com also has some attached to containers. Sooner or later you'll accidentally dose too much too fast.

I had a remora pro with a mag 7 on my 125g when i first set it up a long time ago. It was pulling about one to 2 cups every 2 weeks or so. I ran it for about 4mths before i knew any better. I then got a via aqua sk200 which is a low end stock skimmer, and it was pulling 2-3 cups per day, then i modded the crap out of it and it was pulling 6 cups a day for about a week and a half or darker skimmate the remora ever did. I now have a modded sk388 that is pulling around 2 cups a day of nastyness, very dark brown skimmate. It cost 1/3 completely modded what the remora pro did. Just from experience, if you ever get a decent skimmer, you'll be blown away how much your remora sucks.

Great skimmer for our size tanks

Great skimmer for our size tanks

I can certainly relate â€"œ I have a remora Pro on my 65 and it does a great job. The Mfg recommends the Mag 3 as the best combination for this skimmer. I don’t have a sum and don’t plan on adding one anytime soon.
When it was new it sent bubbles into the tank but that went away after a couple of weeks.
