Removing aquarium glue.

Any tips on removing aquarium silicon from an AGA tank? I have two small tanks of the same size that each have cracked glass on different sides. They have been sitting around for ever and one of them has two holes already drilled in the center. I'm going to switch up the sides to make a complete tank and it has been a pain trying to peal the silicon from the frame of the tanks. Any tips? I know I am not using the proper tools.

It is near impossible to fully clean cured silicone off of glass, it will always leave some sort of film after it no matter how you clean it. This film will weaken your new silicone joint.

Wow, I never thought taking apart a glass aquarium would be such a pain in the ***.... I just broke another side trying to get the trim off.

What is MEK and where could I get it? This is not going well, I mess around with it for a half our or so and get frustrated. I feel like I am going to break the glass trying to pull it apart or get my razor blade between the sheets.(and have broke parts already)

Methyl Ethyl Ketone

do a search for that. Home depot should have it to be honest.

I took one apart, it was a big mess, it took a while but finally got it done. No leaks yet.

Could I take something like a hammer and break the piece of glass that is cracked out to remove it? Or would this be a bad idea? Would it be probable that this would break another side even if don't carefully? I've been tempted to put my first through it, but fortunately I'm a little smarter then that, lol.
