Removing brace around a 10gal

I was looking at removing part of a 10 gal black rim. I need to get it to fit inside my stand so that I can use it for a sump. I would be cutting it at all 8 corners, but only taking off what is needed. Should I just remove the whole thing? Will it still hold okay with the water if I just remove the parts I need? Any advice is appreciated!

It will hold if you take the trim off.

I was going to be using it for a sump/fuge, so there really wouldn't be a lot of water in it! So I was thinking it would hold too... now my question is, is it siliconed on the inside of that trim, or can I just cut it off and not have to resliicone the entire tank?

The plastic is held in place with silicone. As long as you don't affect the integrity of the silicone inside the tank, there is no need to re-silicone the tank.

Another question about this... how would I got about taking it off? Would I just cut into it with a utility knife and try to remove it that way? Or is there a better way to get it off?

I've removed the trim a few times. Here's how I did it:
1)slip a razor up inside the trim (between trim and glass) to cut the silicone there.
2) grab on with pliers or something and pull.

I may just be bad at this kind of thing, but I have never managed to pull off all the trim w/o breaking it, so now I just use pliers and don't even try.

I don't care if I break the trim or not. So, I guess I can use the razor knife on the inside of the trim and just break it off.

Okay... So, I got it taken apart, but I accidently broke a chunk of glass off of a corner. I have it filled with water now up to where the sump water will sit, now my question is, will it hold? I'll get a picture up here in a little bit!

Dog gonnitt!!!!! I set it outside, and I thought that it was flat, but I guess it wasn't and the bottom cracked! SHOOT!!! Well,looks like I have a throw away tank! or just some glass for a possible overflow? Oh well... either way, I'll use it somehow

Yea, I know... I got this one for free, so not a big deal. I may end up getting a 5 gallon and using that as a sump
