Removing Brain Coral From Rock

OK I'm having severe detritus build up and algae blooms that are to the point of chocking out my corals. So I'm dwn to removing my last and hardest coral to remove because it has became real established to the rock I attached it to and I'm now having to remove it. But my question it what the safest and least stressful way to get it off the rock. Thank you Brian.

If it has thoroughly fused to the rock, the "best" way is to use a band saw to cut away the section that the coral has attached to (with some of the base rock, of course).

If that's not do-able, hammer and chisel are about the only other option

OK thank you for the help. I'm gonna try and find a band saw if I can't what's the best trick with using a hammer And chiesel

you're probably dealing with irregularly shaped rock with a varying composition so you just have to proceed carefully, but not so carefully that the coral remains exposed to air for more than a couple minutes.

Look for a weak spot in the rock as far from the coral skeleton and tissue as possible and cross your fingers.

I was gonna place the rock in a tub and place it in complete darkness to kill the algae and get the ruock running back on just bacteria instead of algae

What about cleaning the rock around the brain with a dremel with the small, wire brush attachment? If you use a cordless one or the remote wand you could do it right above or near a tub of water to reduce stress. If that doesn't work, try it with a cut-off wheel instead. ; )
