Removing Center Brace

Has anyone tried this? I have a 270g, 72x36x24 tall. I was think about removing the center brace and replacing it with a metal band around the plastic band around the tank and adding 2-3 (2"x1/2"thk) cross braces. All welded and powder coated. What do you think?

I removed the brace on my 125g and replaced it with two strips of acrylic bonded to the frame with weld-on #4.
