Removing DSB Fuge

Not really funny bro! More annoying than anything! Makes me think of giving up on this hobby! heheh! :sad1:

Thanks but i doubt i do have any crabs/shrimps/worms in my tank. I dried all my LR before placing them in my tank. So the chances of that happening are pretty slim. I havent been able to check my nitrates these past few days but all i can say is that any algae/diatom growth in my tank has slowed down considerably. STN has stopped also and im hoping my SPS will recover from that. Now i just wonder if too low nitrates can cause rics to disappear. Comments?

By the way I also removed the filter socks and filter floss already. Lets see if that will also bring down the nitrates. :D

Just some updates....

STN has stopped. Acros regaining tissue lost. Growth has restarted again. So far no additional casualties.

Converted my in-line frag tank into a LR fuge. Moved almost 90% of my LR from my sump to that in-line LR fuge. Cleaned out the detritus accumulation in the dsb and just put in some cheato over the dsb. Hopefully the dsb now gets more flow as there is very few LR on it now. Im still continuing dosing mb7 and vodka. 2 caps of mb7 plus 3ml of vodka a day.

We'll check water params again this weekend.

I removed my 3 year, old 30 gallon, remote deep sand bed from my 240G SPS tank with no side effects. I also removed my sulfur denitrator. My skimmer, refugiums and carbon source / bacteria dosing is all I need to keep nitrates undetectable. Trying to simplify. (been 2 months now w/o a change)

Congrats on that. Decided against removing the dsb fuge in my sump. Still continuing to dose vodka and so far nitrates have gone down to 5ppm already even with the dsb. No algae blooms even with the dsb. So far so good.

so whats the correct way to run a dsb in a regium?
use a filter sock? increase flow? siphon?
dont use one? ARGH!!!

IME you should siphon out the detritus that has accumulated over time and increase flow over the dsb. That worked for me.

shandy,
it looks like u have a DSB under ur protein skimmer... is ur protein skimmer pump running ok? Is this a doable in a sump?

yes. There is a dsb fuge under the skimmer. The skimmer is directly fed from the overflow of the DT and the pump of the skimmer is actually above water. I havent had any problems with my skimmer. :)
